providentia

Divine Providence

Latin · Mt 6:25-34

God's loving care by which he guides all he has made toward its perfection; the reason a Catholic can say “God has a plan” even in suffering.

foresight; provision

God did not make the world and walk away. Providence is the name for the dispositions by which he leads his creation, with wisdom and love, toward the goal for which he made it. The Catechism teaches that providence is concrete and immediate, extending to the smallest things, and that God can bring good even out of evil, as the story of Joseph and above all the Cross show. It does not cancel human freedom; God works through the free choices of his creatures. Jesus asks his disciples to trust it like children.
